How many customers a price implies
Divide a tool's published MRR by its cheapest self-serve price and you get the number of customers it would take, at list price, to earn that revenue. Across 277 tools with both numbers, the median is 10 customers — entry price at $5 or more, revenue above zero.
Read it as customers, not as a multiple: the median tool here would need 10 paying customers at its own entry price to reach the revenue it publishes. The tools at the top of the list need thousands — which is the difference between a price and a market.
Customer equivalents at list price
| Customers at list price | Tools | Share | Median entry price |
|---|---|---|---|
| fewer than 3 | 74 | 27% | $27 |
| 3–10 | 61 | 22% | $19 |
| 10–30 | 44 | 16% | $20 |
| 30–100 | 42 | 15% | $29 |
| 100–300 | 23 | 8% | $19 |
| 300–1,000 | 15 | 5% | $29 |
| 1,000 and up | 18 | 6% | $17 |
A high number means many small customers at a low price, or a large contract sold against a low list price. A low number means the price is high relative to the revenue the founder has published.

What this does not say
A ratio is not a verdict. Revenue here is what the founder published, and some of it includes services or agency work that the self-serve price never shows. A tool with a $5 entry tier and one enterprise contract will look efficient without being so. Tools that sell only annual plans, or quote instead of listing a price, are not in this table at all — and they are often the ones with the highest revenue per customer.
